Children, as we all should know, are a gift from God. Their sheer presence is a reflection of the face of God. I've always had a special place in my heart for kiddos...they truly never cease to amaze me with their intellect, humor, and simple yet beautiful mindset.

Unfortunately, so much of the world glazes over the dignity of these young ones. They place their own desires above that which is best for others, particularly the most vulnerable of society (i.e. the unborn, the elderly, the sick, and the mentally ill). This hateful and selfish mindset is too often reflected through the terrors of abortion, euthanasia, and genocide. And even worse, the devil has pushed us into these terrors for thousands of years.

On this day, we remember the Holy Innocents, those little ones, who - through Herod's jealousy and hate - were murdered in the young years of our Lord Jesus (Matthew 2: 13-18). In addition, we remember those who were not even given the chance to breathe life: the unborn.

I came across an article in the Penn Trafford Star the other day that beautifully sheds light on the theme for this day. I invite you to read and reflect on Pat Shannon's moving piece, "Joseph's Dream:"
