God’s House

During mass this morning I had a sweet blessing touch me. As I was leading the singing of the Gloria, I had a spiritual sensation move me to wipe away all worries and thoughts from this life, leaving only a spiritual core to offer up to God. It was like taking a towel to dry myself off from the pool, or using a cloth to brush off dust from outside. I had entered God’s house at that moment, feeling totally exposed, not in a sense of fright, but in one of complete joy. In God’s house, there is no worry, doubt, or worldly desire present. We cannot cover up our failings, we can’t pretend to be someone we’re not. We just are, and we are His. It’s a place where we all become needy children, regardless of any relationships, wealth, or status we hold in our earthly dwelling. It’s in God’s house that we raise up those parts of us which we often suppress: our souls, our inner desire to be united with Jesus, our very purest dreams. It is often seemingly impossible to separate our earthly associations from God’s house, but I challenge you (and certainly, myself) to strip away the earthly connections you have, entering into the mass with renewed spirit. After all, God’s food is not meant for the body, but is meant for everlasting spiritual sustenance. Bring, therefore, your empty cup, one that is ready to overflow with grace in abundance.
