Just a Spark

Are you feeling lost? Are you feeling distant? Perhaps, even, in "no man’s land?" Well, that’s kind of like me right now. We all have ups and downs in our faith, but the thing that gets you back into faith is community. Fortunately, we live in a world where so many want to welcome you into their family. Tonight, I found my family again. I didn’t think I would be going to a Newman small group until a good friend texted me and said, “Hey, there’s this Newman event tonight. You should come!" I recalled the amount of work I had to do, but also considered where I was in my faith-----"Well, maybe I ought to go." I think that little nudge was the Holy Spirit---God knew I needed this. The event consisted of greeting old friends and making new ones, bonding over prayer and cookies and stories of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we'd like to be in our faith. It was these moments that allowed me to breathe: to breathe in peace, to breathe in refreshment, to breathe Christ back into my mind and heart. And with fresh air came the acknowledgement of just how much I need God and desired to re-connect. God is everywhere. He wants you. Never think that you don’t belong. Even if you are estranged from the faith, haven’t been to church in years, or don’t even remember a lot about who you are and where you belong, God is waiting for you. He desires you with a full heart and open arms. All we have to do is turn to Him. Sometimes, I get caught up with the idea that I have to do everything in order to re-connect with God: I have to say my rosary, read all the books of the Bible, go to as many daily masses as I can, etc. etc. But that is simply not the case. God calls us to other tasks in life, challenges that can help us grow and discover Him in all realms of life. Sometimes, quality beats quantity. It only takes a little spark. Simply turn your ear to Him, and He will respond. He loves you, and He wants you.

"Come back to me with all your heart. Don't let fear keep us apart.....

Long have I waited for your coming home to me and living deeply our new life."

~Lyrics of "Hosea"
