A Sweet Surprise

Sometimes, God's love is unpredictable. I don't mean that in the sense that He only sometimes loves (for He loves incessantly), but that His love is made known to us in special ways.

Just this evening, I was praising God with my charismatic prayer group called Bread of Life. As we do every Tuesday night in the Meditation Chapel at Penn State, we were worshiping Jesus with song, singing "Your Grace is Enough," a common selection for Catholics and Christians alike. We had been having such a special time together; we had talked about God's healing in our lives, sung of God's love for us, and had even prayed over one another like the apostles did during the early days of the Church. Little did we know what was to unfold.

After a period of continued prayer through tongues, singing, and spoken word, my friend next to me spoke up and said, "I think God sent us a message." We all opened our eyes to behold none other than a simple paper airplane in her hands. On the paper, in blue marker was written: "You guys sing really well," followed by a simple smiley face.

We were all so thrilled and shocked to have had such a sweet surprise enter into our circle of prayer! Whether it was God's direct message or just a kind complement from a stranger, we knew God was pleased with our actions, and we were all the more elated. What's more, this small gesture made us realize (or at least, made me realize) just how special the little things in life come to be, and how---most importantly---these sweet blessings bring us closer to God, who reaches out to us in every way!
